  14.      The WD1006V-SR1 controller is designed to interface with up to two 
  15.      Winchester hard disk drives with 2,7 RLL specifications in an IBM PC 
  16.      AT or compatible system and will support drives with up to 16 
  17.      read/write heads and 2048 cylinders.  Each drive may be a different 
  18.      configuration.  
  19.      
  20.      The WD1006V-SR2 also supports up to two floppy disk drives including 
  21.      360 KB, 720 KB, 1.2 Megabyte, and 1.44 Megabyte drives (5-1/4 inch or 
  22.      3-1/2 inch).  The WD1006V-SR2 also supports "intelligent" 1.44 
  23.      Megabyte media drives.  These intelligent drives obtain the drive 
  24.      type and data rate from the drive's media and do not depend upon the 
  25.      state of J1 pin 2 for this information.

  27.      The advanced design of the WD1006V-SR1 and WD1006V-SR2 implements the 
  28.      controllers' most significant features, 1:1 interleave and the look-
  29.      ahead track cache to improve the throughput to the host.
  30.      
  31.      Installation of the controller requires three steps:  1) verifying 
  32.      jumper settings; 2) installing into the host computer; 3) formatting 
  33.      the hard disk drives.  To complete installation, you will need the 
  34.      following:
  35.      
  36.                     DO NOT USE WITH MFM TYPE HARD DISK DRIVES
  37.        THE WD1006V-SR1 AND WD1006V-SR2 ARE TO BE USED WITH RLL DRIVES ONLY
  38.      
  39.      Two hard disk cables (3 if using 2 hard disk drives); Winchester RLL 
  40.      hard disk drive; screwdriver; MSDOS Version 2.0 or later; IBM 
  41.      Advanced Diagnostic diskette (or similar program for IBM 
  42.      compatibles); FDISK and Format utility (normally included with 
  43.      MSDOS).

  67.      Before you can install your WD1006V-SR1 or SR2, you will need to be 
  68.      certain that the jumpers (small shorting plugs) are correctly set.  
  69.      Refer to Table 1 for correct jumper settings.  Modification of 
  70.      factory jumper settings is rarely necessary.  Modify jumpers only 
  71.      under the direction of a qualified individual; i.e. your dealer.

  144.                               Hardware Installation
  145.      
  146.                                      WARNING
  147.                         MAKE SURE COMPUTER IS TURNED OFF
  148.                             AND POWER IS DISCONNECTED
  149.      
  150.      1.  Verify that your host computer has a 135 watt power supply.  If 
  151.      the disk drive(s) is(are) being installed internally, it is best to 
  152.      locate the controller in the nearest available expansion slot to the 
  153.      drive.
  154.      
  155.      2.  Remove the blank expansion slot bracket.  Put the bracket away 
  156.      and save it for possible future use.  The screw will be used to hold 
  157.      the new controller in place.
  158.      
  159.      3.  The terminating resistor must be present only on the last hard 
  160.      disk drive connected.  If there are two drives, the terminating 
  161.      resistor must be present on the second drive.  Verify proper setting 
  162.      of drive select switches for drive select 1 or 2. Refer to your 
  163.      system owner's manual for information about proper drive termination 
  164.      and select switches.  DO NOT USE THE RADIAL SELECT OPTION.

  166.      NOTE:  IF USING THE WD1006V-SR2 WITH BUILT IN FLOPPY CONTROLLER...
  167.      
  168.      DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE WITH ANY OTHER FLOPPY CONTROLLER.  IT IS NOT 
  169.      POSSIBLE TO DISABLE THE FLOPPY CONTROLLER ON THE WD1006V-SR2.

  171.      4.  Attach 34-pin control connector 1 to J5 on the controller board.  
  172.      Make sure that Pin 1 of the cable connector goes to Pin 1 on the 
  173.      controller board.  Pin 1 of the cable connector is typically located 
  174.      on the color coded side of the cable.

  176.      5.   Connect control cable to drive.
  177.      
  178.      6.   Attach 20-pin data connector to J4 (Drive C or 0).
  179.      
  180.      7.   Attach 20-pin data connector to J3 (Drive D or 1).

  182.      8.   Connect data cables to drives.

  184.      9.   Attach Winchester activity LED connector to J6.

  202.      10.  Attach the floppy cable connector to J1.

  209.      12.  Install controller board into the expansion slot. Make sure that 
  210.      the board is seated properly by pressing down on both ends of the 
  211.      board.  Secure the board with the bracket screw.

  213.                                      CAUTION
  214.                   WHEN ROUTING CABLES, BE CAREFUL NOT TO PINCH
  215.                   THEM.  CABLES MUST NOT GET CAUGHT BETWEEN THE
  216.                  COVER AND THE BOARDS, NOR SHOULD THEY OBSTRUCT
  217.                       ANY AIR FLOW PATH FROM FANS OR VENTS.
